Roan Mountain State Park Wedding

This was a weekend for the books. Hunter and Jason planned one of the sweetest wedding weekends we’ve ever documented, and we are just so grateful to have been part of it. With 5 kids between the two of them, they curated their wedding to really celebrate the union of their two families. The venue site was a whole cluster of riverside cottages and camping cabins nestled in the mountains just outside of Asheville. There was enough room for all kinds of exploring and activities for everyone. 

The Ceremony

We had perfect autumn weather – cool but sunny while the leaves blanketed the ground like confetti with every breeze. Hunter had her best friend help her and the girls get ready, while Jason and all the boys got each other dressed in an adjacent cabin. Another friend of theirs officiated in the most beautiful way, and they stood by the river, read their vows, had all the kids give their blessing, and promised their lives to each other. 

And of course the first thing we did after the ceremony was take everyone down to the water and have them all dip their feet. It was freezing cold but so worth it! After portraits, everyone joined together by the fire pits to eat and make s’mores, with live music and dancing. We loved getting to know Hunter and Jason and their amazing crew. 

Last but not least, no mountain wedding is complete without a hike for sunrise portraits! And that’s exactly what we did the next morning. We met Hunter and Jason at Roan Mountain where we booked it up the mountain in the dark to catch the soft sunlight that the morning brings. 

What a wonderful weekend this was, and we feel so blessed to have been there.
