Ivy & Oak Wedding | Traditional Vietnamese Wedding & Tea Ceremony
This traditional Vietnamese wedding was such a honor to witness. Winter weddings have a special place for us. The vibes are cozy and intimate. It’s off season for weddings so things are quiet, the holidays might be in full swing, and the cold air just makes everything warm on the inside.
Melissa and Jonathan picked the day after Christmas to tie the knot, and it could not have been more perfect. Christmas was still in the air, family and friends were all in town, and the weather was an absolute gift of warm and crisp.
We’ve never had the pleasure of documenting a traditional Vietnamese tea ceremony and let me tell you, it was extraordinary. The tea ceremony is a beautiful tradition where the the union of two families is celebrated. Melissa wore a gorgeous traditional red dress designed and made by her aunt. Each group of family members excitedly lined up to see Melissa and Jonathan and gift them with their own beautifully ornamented red card. A traditional gift. The couple serves tea to each family member to honor and thank everyone for all they’ve done for them.
Melissa then put on a stunning white wedding dress for her traditional American wedding. As they exchanged vows, there wasn’t a dry eye in the audience. Every guest could feel the love in the air. They were showered with bubbles for their exit and spent the rest of the day celebrating and dancing the night away.
