Montgomery Wedding Photographer | A Farm Story

This sweet wedding took place on the groom’s family farm in Montgomery, Alabama. This was actually a wedding weekend.

The Toast & Roast

The first night started with a welcome dinner where both sides of family and friends were able to familiarize themselves with the one another. It was officially classified as a “Toast & Roast.” Several people had prepared speeches to roast the couple. The parents even gave it go, and finally Mira and Joe roasted each other. Mira said she expected a full BBQ from everyone. From what I gathered about their story, they were hiking buddies first and then their love flourished quickly through the magic of the outdoors. He is the sweet southern gentleman who loves his Coca Cola, and she is the trendy, outgoing cultured woman that likes to challenge his palette. The roasts were awesome, and I think Joe’s mom took the prize that night for her speech.

Mira and Joe met at Stanford. She comes from a large Lebanese family, while Joe grew up just outside Montgomery, AL on his family farm. And this is where they had their ceremony.

The Wedding Day

The wedding day was amazing. We met up at the farm where everyone was getting ready in Joe’s childhood home. And then one group at a time, they were escorted in pickup trucks to the ceremony site. They built a large deck on the property just a few months before, overlooking the river for the ceremony, and invited their closest friends and family to witness their union. It was the best view on the farm. Peaceful and serene, truly a special place.

Mira picked her flowers and bridesmaids dresses to mimic the colors of sunset. They incorporated Lebanese tradition through a ring exchange with the MOHs & Best Man – this was meant to signify their presence as guides and a support system in their marriage. Her brother officiated, her father and best friend read poems, and they read their own vows to each other.

After the ceremony, later that day, we explored the grounds and took photos in all the beautiful corners the farm had to offer. We took a little Jon boat out on the water, along with the flowers from the ceremony arbor, and had a tour under the cypress trees (we even saw a little gator pop its head out of the water). We then went to the cow fields and had a blast running around while they all curiously stared at us wondering why we didn’t bring food. And then we ended the afternoon along the wheat fields, where the sun peaked its golden light through our lenses, and left us with the dreamiest souvenirs of this beautiful place.

The Brunch

The last day was a goodbye brunch back at the farm. Mira and Joe had organized the most delicious BBQ lunch and tours of the farm for all the guests. All the bridesmaids were decked out in jean overalls and boots with images of farms animals. Right on theme. Everyone had a blast and it was such a wonderful way to say goodbye to Mira and Joe, and to the farm.

Thank you for sharing your home with us. We truly loved getting to know you both.

xx Vicky
